Fire Deparment
The Sun 'n Lake Fire Department is a combination department which operates under the supervision of the Public Safety Officer. Members consist of both paid and volunteer firefighters. Paid personnel are on duty 7 days per week between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. The department's volunteer firefighters supplement the paid members by responding to alarms from work or home. Both paid and volunteer firefighters are alerted to emergencies via a pager system operated by the Highlands County 911 Center and respond 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Regular training drills are staged for our firefighters. Our department consists of three fire fighting apparatus, a ladder truck, pumper and a brush truck which are kept on the premises.
The Sun 'n Lake Fire Department responds to numerous emergency requests within the District. These emergencies include fires, emergency medical emergencies, auto accidents and many other types of calls for assistance. The department is part of the Highlands County automatic mutual aid agreement and responds as a secondary agency to emergencies in Highlands Lakes, City of Avon Park and West Sebring Fire Districts. Sun 'n Lake Fire Department is available to respond to any location in the county upon the request from that agency.
The Prevention Division conducts regular inspections of all business located in the District. Any new commercial construction must submit a complete set of plans to the Fire Department for review by a State of Florida certified Fire Inspector. |
